Career Access Project Specialist – July 1

YouthBuild Lake County is looking for a dynamic, self-starter to fill our full-time Career Access Project Specialist/College Career Coach position.

As the Career Access Project Specialist you will manage our new innovative Career Access Program. You will work with the Program Manager and Executive Director to development and implement a new collaborative approach to post-secondary navigation. You will be paramount in helping our agency access career placement opportunities with local education and workforce partners.

If you're the right person for this position you will have these required skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Education, Public Administration, Community Development or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in project management, youth development or workforce development programs in community based setting
  • Prior experience in grant management and report writing
  • Significant prior experience in working with young people coming from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Job Developer – July 1

If you're a people person and have great communications skills, join the YouthBuild Lake County staff as our Job Developer.

As our Job Developer, you will build and maintain a network of employers that are open to hiring our students as interns or employees. You will also work closely with our students by helping them develop career readiness skills by organizing various workshops with topics such as interviewing, communication and resume building.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting YouthBuild staff members and students by identifying and scheduling career-related guest speakers, site visits, job shadow experiences, and informational interviews
  • Working directly with our students to guide them to job readiness.
  • Working with other directors and board to market the program to potential employers. This will include developing and making presentations about Youthbuild.
  • Working closely with employers of students to maximize student employment retention and success
  • Networking in the public and private sectors to promote awareness and enhance the reputation of the Youthbuild program

If you're the right person for this position you will have these required skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Public Administration, Community Development, Human Resources, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in job placement, youth development or workforce development programs in community based setting
  • Experience working with young people coming from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Experience in grant management and report writing a plus

Career Development Intern

Do you have a passion for volunteering? Do you want to make an impact in our communities and help to alleviate poverty? You may be a fit for YouthBuild Lake County in the role of AmeriCorps Career Development Intern. This is a one-year, full-time commitment.

As the Career Development VISTA you will work with the Career Access Specialist to implement a new innovative approach to help our students navigate the post-secondary education system, earn industry certifications, and gain employment.

During your internship with us you will:

  • Coordinate school and community work-based learning opportunities for students such as job shadowing, internships, cooperative education, etc.
  • Identify local businesses for potential partnerships in four main industries: healthcare, IT, construction, and manufacturing
  • Identify barriers that students may face in obtaining part-time employment and provide solutions to these barriers
  • Streamline the hiring process for our students by obtaining their prerequisites such as applications, background checks, etc.

You're a great candidate for this position if you:

  • Have a Bachelor degree in Education, Public Administration, Community Development or equivalent
  • Exhibit strong organization and communication skills
  • Have a strong desire to work with young people coming from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Want to gain work experience in project management, youth development or workforce development programs in community based setting

Administrative Intern

Home for the summer? YouthBuild Lake County is looking for a summer intern from June to September 15 to work daily from 7:30 - 4. If you're energetic and like talking with people, join YouthBuild as our Administrative Intern.

As the Administrative Intern, you will serve as the first impression for our agency. You will also aid in the important role of managing documents and files related to our students and agency. You will have very good customer service skills and be an organized and efficient asset to the YouthBuild team.

During your internship with us you will:

  • Assist the agency to prepare documents and our facility for visits from donors, employers and grantors.
  • Attend community events during the summer (June to August)
  • Perform various reception duties such as greeting guests, answering phones, and filling.
  • Assist the student service department by making follow up calls to students.

If you're the right person for this position you will:

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be able to work independently
  • Have a genuine interest in learning about YouthBuild Lake County
  • Have a desire to gain practical work experience
  • Be able to present your ideas clearly and concisely
  • Be able to work nights and/or weekends
  • Have a current driver’s license.

Construction Aid Intern

This is a great opportunity for a someone looking to make a career change! Start as a paid intern and move into full-time employment within a year!

YouthBuild Lake County is a non profit located in North Chicago, IL. We offer low-income, at-risk youth the chance to earn their high school diploma all while learning marketable job skills.

If you like to help people and have a knowledge of construction, this job is for you.

This is a full-time, forty hour per week, internship as an AmeriCorps Construction Aide at YouthBuild Lake County with an opportunity for long-term employment upon completion.

During this internship you will

  • Be responsible for helping to build and guide a team of at-risk youth to safely build and refurbish YouthBuild AmeriCorps houses
  • You will also provide support, guidance and encouragement in the development of youth leadership and soft skills.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • An in depth knowledge of construction skills and the proper use of tools
  • Ability le to build relationships with our students
  • Ability assist in building/remodeling of affordable housing
  • Team work in mind
