You have the power to make your future better by working hard in the present.
Construction training is at the core of YouthBuild’s mission. We believe that the skills acquired through vocational training extend far beyond the work site. Students learn the importance of hard work, safety, job readiness, and teamwork while developing new career skills.
All YouthBuild students obtain their Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour certification and complete the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Certification. Our students utilize the knowledge they gain from these trainings by completing construction projects in the community. YouthBuild Lake County has completed eight student-built affordable homes. Completing these projects allows students to see the real world effects of their training and directly benefits the community of North Chicago.
YBLC assists students in developing a career pathways plan based on their interests, abilities, and assessments. YBLC offers additional training and support for students who choose to pursue in-demand industry certifications and training in the areas of Apprenticeships and Trades, Healthcare, Information Technology, and Transportation Distribution and Logistics. Students who choose careers outside of these industries receive referrals for continuing education and career placement assistance
