Tameka Wilson

Executive Director

Before YBLC, Tameka owned an insurance agency, coordinated North Chicago Community Days and volunteered her time in various community engagement activities. Tameka decided to make a more substantial difference in her home town of North Chicago, accepting the role of YBLC Development Director in the fall of 2013.

The determination and perserverance that I have witnessed YBLC students demonstrate time and time again is what inspires me to do what I do!

Abu Bakr

 Manager of Construction Education

Abu was working for TriClover in 2004 when he decided that working with these inspiring young people was his calling. He loves being a part of their lives and encouraging them to succeed.

I really respect the students who come to YBLC because they’re trying to better their lives for themselves and their families. I remember one young lady who thought she couldn’t make it without her baby’s father. But now she’s doing really well for herself! She’s in college and working steadily.

Pedro Delgado

Construction Site Manager

Pedro personally knows the impact that YBLC can have on the future of a young person — his own son went through the program. After 25 years as a journeyman carpenter, he felt his construction skills could help benefit the students at YBLC, so he joined the organization in 2005.

A number of students come to mind who worked especially hard and devoted themselves to learn as much as possible about construction and building their skills. One now has a career in the Army, two are union carpenters, one is a union laborer, and one is a supervisor at a store. If students want to change their lives, they can get a great start at YouthBuild.

Terry Lenz

Program Director

After nine years at YBLC, Terry continues to be impressed and inspired by the young adults who are driven to exceed and be successful.  The students call him “Mr. T,” and this former Marine keeps everyone moving forward with their lives.

One particular young man from our program had a very rough history. But he grew tremendously at YBLC. He did whatever it took to reach the goals that he set. To see him grow like that…it was so inspiring!
